City: BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND
Business: sALLY PROSSER
What: I help you own, love and release your voice so you can speak with confidence and impact. Whether you want to nail a pitch, improve networking conversations, deliver a keynote to thousands or simply have more confidence to speak up in a meeting – I teach all the strategies and techniques to do that!
How did the idea for your business first come about?
Having confidence in my voice made employers take me seriously when I was a young professional. My career went from strength to strength, from running a successful speech & drama school of my own, to TV and radio news reporting to acting as a company spokesperson. It's why I'm comfortable introducing myself to strangers and I know my voice is the reason people listen when I speak. Because of this, I had a constant stream of people asking me for advice about how they could be better speakers or have better voices for news reporting.
When did you have the “f*ck-it moment” and decide you were going to go all-in and start your business?
After an MC gig I did, the CEO of the company I was working for told me - “you should be doing that full time!” And with no kids, no pets and no boyfriend, I thought why not?! Life’s short and all that stuff!
What were some major challenges you had when starting your business? And how did you overcome them?
Knowing what advice to take on and what to ignore – because everyone tells you something different! I try to surround myself with trusted advisors and at the end of the day back my own decisions and always trust my instinct.
What has been your biggest “pinch me” moment?
Still waiting for it… It’s nice though when you meet someone for the first time and they say ‘Sally Prosser, I’ve heard great things about your work!’
Starting a business can be gruelling - what keeps you motivated, and keeps you going?
For me it’s about mindset and celebrating wins. Most days I get up at 5am, exercise and do a short meditation (my attention span is terrible!) I’m also doing the Bob Proctor & Sandy Gallagher ‘Thinking into Results’ program, which I highly recommend for staying motivated and focused on your goals. I believe in the power of voice, because everyone has that power within. I also believe in the power of being an indulgent Aunty, an AirBnB SuperHost and enjoying good wine and cheese.
How do you create a work-life balance?
I put social events and travel in the calendar and write attainable to-do lists, so you know when to finish for the day. Also, your voice sounds more balanced if your life is balanced. Nobody wants the voice of a burnout!
