Business: Crypto Price Finder
What? Crypto Price Finder a tool and educational resource for people who want to get started investing in cryptocurrencies. We decrypt the technical jargons around cryptocurrency and translate it into a language that everyone can understand.
How did the idea for your business first come about?
I got into a skateboarding accident that broke both legs and was bed-ridden for 2 months. While in hospital I met another patient Yvonne, a sweet little grandmother, who became the inspiration for the app Crypto Price Finder. I realised there was a disconnect and wanted to find an easy way to explain cryptocurrency and bitcoin easily.
When did you have a ‘f*ck-it moment’ and decide you were going to go all-in and start your business?
After breaking both my legs I was depressed and frustrated having lost my independence. One thing I had plenty of was time. As I laid in that hospital bed I spent my days coding and experimenting with technologies. I was unsure when I would be able to walk again, but I became even more determined to make Crypto Price Finder happen regardless.
What were some major challenges you had when starting your business? And how did you overcome them?
The process of building the app did not immediately reveal itself. A few months passed since its ideation and it was on a surf trip where I met the driver of the Melbourne branch of a coding bootcamp called Le Wagon. It turned out that the bootcamp was just the place to manifest my dream. I followed my gut and left my job to pursue programming.
What has been your biggest “pinch me” moment?
I was able to learn and upskill my programming knowledge and understood how to build my app. By the end of the bootcamp I pitched my app to an audience and the following morning I received 3 investor queries. I couldn't believe it but was so stoked!
Starting a business can be gruelling - what keeps you motivated, and keeps you going?
I stay involved in the world of programming and surround myself with like-minded people through conferences like Run the World and also through Le Wagon. I hold free programming workshops and classes at Le Wagon and it really motivates me when I see men and women get involved and learn how to code.
How do you create a work-life balance?
I surf a lot down at Torquay. It is low impact, a great replacement for skateboarding. I have also become a gym rat so you'll find me working out at the gym every morning before work - it really helps me destress
