Business: Mingle Seasoning
What? A range of all-natural seasonings with no hidden nasties, that allows you to flavour your food with confidence.
1. How did the idea for your business first come about?
One Sunday arvo meal prepping. That day, my pantry was Choc-a-Block and a clean out was well over due. And it was throughout this big pantry cleanout that I started reading a lot of the ingredients on the seasonings that I had been using to flavour my food. Needless to say, I didn't like what I saw and that's when the idea of Mingle was born.
2. When did you have a ‘f*ck-it moment’ and decide you were going to go all in and start your business
Once I had created some kickass tasty natural seasonings that my family and friends loved and raved about, I knew I was kind of on to something and honestly just ran with it and was all-in from there
3. What were some major challenges you had when starting your business? And how did you overcome them?
I made the seasonings for the first 3 months of the business, so after my full time job I had my production line happening in my kitchen to all hours! I legit was a spice girl! It did however, become way too much to handle and we had to find a manufacturer to outsource it to.
4. What has been your biggest “pinch me” moment?
There have been a lot! And as much as the PR, events and shiny stuff are great, honestly the biggest pinch me moment for me, is when I've been told by many mums "My kids now eat veggies because of Mingle." That makes my heart full!
5. Starting a business can be gruelling -what keeps you motivated, and keeps you going?
Honestly it's the comments from customers when they say " I now cook some much more at home because of Mingle" or " I now eat veggies because Mingle makes them taste good." For me, it goes beyond just selling the Mingle product, I really want to educate people about eating healthily and show them that kale can actually be delicious... with mingle!
6. What do you do to create a work-life balance?
This is a constant struggle for me! Especially at the moment when I have only been full time on the business for the last 3 months. For me, there is nothing like a nice sweaty yoga flow ( which I try and do every morning) to keep me in check. Not working at home has also been super helpful to try and set some boundaries.
