She was named Gold Coast Woman in Business of the Year 2017, and was a finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards in 2016.

Deb’s career has been punctuated by ‘firsts’. She was the first non-doctor to become a partner in a UK medical practice, and her group were the first non-pharmacist to own a UK pharmacy. She also opened England’s first drive-thru pharmacy. It’s a testament to her incredible vision and passion for the aesthetics industry that she continues to push the boundaries of business to this day.

Alana Arvanitis - Founder & Leading Self-Love Ambassador

Alana Arvanitis is a blend of creativity, a passionate lover of life, an intuitive self-love coach and the creator of The Self-Love Movement. Alana facilitates events which inspire, empower and support women with the devotion to Self-Love.

Through her own life adversities and the tight grip society had placed on her as a growing teen, she was forced to take the journey of Self-Discovery. “I hit rock bottom, in the darkness of sadness & grief, pushing my body to the extreme just in order to survive. Then, I collapsed; I had nothing, nothing to give myself or anyone around me. My only choice was – me. And I chose the path of self-love, happiness, freedom and purpose.” From the day she realised that this was her only option for personal success, Alana began to see the true power of Self-Love, the inkling of magic that knocked on her door and filled her life with abundance, opportunities and immeasurable love.

The more Alana chose herself, the more she unlocked the infinite gifts she had to offer the world. “If you don’t go within, you go without.” Her deep passion for people and teaching led her to the creation of The Self-Love Movement, a social movement dedicated to the power of Self-Love, connection, inspiration and empowerment and support.

What do we mean by real? Well you know when you walk into a room and feel welcome even when you don’t know anyone? Or when you share experiences with someone and they say “me too!”? How about when you share tough times with someone and they don’t try to give you the advice to fix it but rather - they just get you. This is what happens at League of Extraordinary Women Meet Ups.

Ladies this is a journey into all that we were created to be as women - young , old and in between. The wisdoms that only belong to us and how that impacts every breath and every step we take in our magnificent “femaleness”. ( yes, today that’s a word )

We have been pushed into a world of the masculine to do and to accomplish, yet our true ways are so different and when understood and allowed they are so powerful. To understand this is to know yourself and from there - well who knows what is possible !

Uber put the circular economy on the map globally and from there it hasn’t stopped – Airbnb, Timberland, Levi, Dell, Walmart companies all looking to utilise “wasted” assets or recirculate waste into assets. This is the cicular economy.

Our next speaker has been passionate about the space of ethical supply chains, fashion, sustainability the circular economy for years.

From over 30 000 global applications she was UN Young leader for sustainability in 2016.   Was awarded Young Social Pioneer by the Foundation for Young Australians in 2013, was awarded FYA Young Changemaker of the Year in 2015 and was named QLD Young Achiever of the Year 2017.This year Edda Hamar is in the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia List

With two TEDx talks under her belt, Edda is passionate about speaking to people about creating a business that makes a positive social and environmental impact. She also crafted a public social media campaign that secured her a meeting with Sir Richard Branson to discuss sustainability in the fashion industry.

At the age of five, she joined her mum and step dad for a three-year exploration, sailing the seas across the world.  Eventually landing in Australia (her adopted home). This rich experience at such an early age gave Edda a sense of adventure, but also a deep respect for cultures, people and the natural environment, which has had a profound influence on her life and work.

She is founder of Australia’s largest sustainable fashion runway show, Undress Runways which began in 2011. Exhibiting in Australian cities, the event engages 50,000+ people every year to celebrate forward-thinking fashion designers from around the world. In 2014, Edda launched an annually published magazine on the future of fashion, The Naked Mag. Featuring contributors from over 10 countries, she brings a global perspective to local Australian markets. Advocating for diversity, respect, equality, sustainability and smart textiles in the fashion industry.

Today, Edda is developing an online platform to buy, rent and sell maternity wear, a shared economy for mothers. It is called Lána and is currently being tested in Brisbane, Australia. Lána means 'lend' in Icelandic. Her work on Lána earned her a spot in the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia List.

She will share with us her multiple start-ups and how the circular economy is only set to grow and the influence and asset it can be to your business. And she did her senior schooling right here in the Gold Coast!

SOME RULES we’d like to point out.

1) Tickets are $25 (+booking fee), or free for League members. Now, it goes without saying that the free tickets are for League Members only, so please only select that ticket type if you are a paying League Member – League membership is $15 per month, and gives you access to free Meet Ups in addition to loads of members only content on the members portal. If you’re not a member yet then you can join via the link below, or just purchase a ticket.

http://www.leagueofextraordinarywomen.com.au/join-us/

2) Please only register for this event if you plan on going. I know some people will grab a free ticket and then decide last minute that they’re too lazy to go – don’t be one of these people. If you commit to something, commit to it - we want to meet you!

3) If you’ve never been to a League event, there’s a reason why we don’t use the “N” word and use the word “connecting” instead. It's because of the negative connotation of soliciting, selling and business card swapping. Bleh, no one wants to go to an event to talk to someone for 20 minutes only to realise you’re being sucked into buying some powdered thick shakes. We are here to connect authentically and honestly – share stories and experiences, learn from each other and respect each other. Magical things WILL happen and people will seek you out to buy from you when you work from an honest heart space.

If you’re a female entrepreneur or thinking of owning your own business, this Meet Up is the perfect setting to meet other women in the same boat. This is not a networking group – we’re here to have real conversations and make real connections.

WHEN: Wedneday, 6th June 2018

TIME: 5.30PM - 9.00PM

TOPIC // Being True to Yourself in Business

WHAT //

In the beautiful Currumbin valley we will celebrate the start of winter with a women’s fire circle of sharing and connection along with inspiring artist, Delvene Cockatoo Collins sharing her story.

GUEST SPEAKER //

MasterSpeaker (10).png

Delvene Cockatoo Collins - Commonwealth Games Artist

Delvene was the artist behind the medals for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Whilst she is now a professional artist, it was a long pathway to her being able to answer her calling to do what was “burning within”.

She followed a pathway of tertiary studies in arts and worked for many years in government related “artistic” fields and within the indigenous spaces also, but it wasn’t enough. She felt a growing dissatisfaction.

Delvene will share her story about being able to be her authentic self and honour her ancestors and her talents through her calling to be an artist, and business woman. A business woman that lives by her rules, and those of her traditions, and still “commercially “sustains her and her family.

She lives on Minjerribah North Stradbroke Island, and is a proud Nunukul, Ngugi and Goenpul woman of Quandamooka Country.

Her speciality in the art world is in textiles and ceramics. The stories she shares through these mediums are those of her family's lived experiences on Minjerribah, the natural environment, and her responses to representations of images and objects of Quandamooka.

Some of her works are reproduced to a home textiles and homewares range and have been sold throughout Australia and Internationally. She is also commissioned to do private and government works.

Delvene also incorporates local arts projects, including Jarjums Life Museum—a project capturing the lives of children living on Minjerribah and Inala, local cultural events including NAIDOC on Minjerribah, and the Quandamooka Festival.

She lives on Country with her family. It is important to her that her children know their families, their connections, Country, the local language 'Jandai' and their traditional dances.
