Edda Hamar - sustainablity | fashion | entrepreneur

TedX speaker, global award winner, serial entrepreneur and named in Forbes 30 under 30 list, Edda Hamar is going to inspire a whole new way of thinking about business.

Uber put the circular economy on the map globally and from there it hasn’t stopped – Airbnb, Timberland, Levi, Dell, Walmart companies all looking to utilise “wasted” assets or recirculate waste into assets. This is the cicular economy.

Our next speaker has been passionate about the space of ethical supply chains, fashion, sustainability the circular economy for years.

From over 30 000 global applications she was UN Young leader for sustainability in 2016.   Was awarded Young Social Pioneer by the Foundation for Young Australians in 2013, was awarded FYA Young Changemaker of the Year in 2015 and was named QLD Young Achiever of the Year 2017.This year Edda Hamar is in the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia List

With two TEDx talks under her belt, Edda is passionate about speaking to people about creating a business that makes a positive social and environmental impact. She also crafted a public social media campaign that secured her a meeting with Sir Richard Branson to discuss sustainability in the fashion industry.

At the age of five, she joined her mum and step dad for a three-year exploration, sailing the seas across the world.  Eventually landing in Australia (her adopted home). This rich experience at such an early age gave Edda a sense of adventure, but also a deep respect for cultures, people and the natural environment, which has had a profound influence on her life and work.

She is founder of Australia’s largest sustainable fashion runway show, Undress Runways which began in 2011. Exhibiting in Australian cities, the event engages 50,000+ people every year to celebrate forward-thinking fashion designers from around the world. Undress broadens people’s awareness to a world that respects garment makers and the environment.

In 2014, Edda launched an annually published magazine on the future of fashion, The Naked Mag. Featuring contributors from over 10 countries, she brings a global perspective to local Australian markets. Advocating for diversity, respect, equality, sustainability and smart textiles in the fashion industry.

She has partnered with Qantas to launch an online store that makes ethical fashion more openly accessible. Edda went on to cofound the ethical label ‘VIHN’, which name is derived from the Icelandic word 'vinur', meaning 'friend'.

Today, Edda is developing an online platform to buy, rent and sell maternity wear, a shared economy for mothers. It is called Lána and is currently being tested in Brisbane, Australia. Lána means 'lend' in Icelandic. Her work on Lána earned her a spot in the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia List.

She will share with us her multiple start-ups and how the circular economy is only set to grow and the influence and asset it can be to your business. And she did her senior schooling right here in the Gold Coast!

THE LEAGUE//

If you’re a female entrepreneur or thinking of owning your own business, this Meet Up is the perfect setting to meet other women in the same boat. This is not a networking group – we’re here to have real conversations and make real connections.

What do we mean by real? Well you know when you walk into a room and feel welcome even when you don’t know anyone? Or when you share experiences with someone and they say “me too!”? How about when you share tough times with someone and they don’t try to give you the advice to fix it but rather - they just get you. This is what happens at League of Extraordinary Women Meet Ups.

SOME RULES we’d like to point out.

1) Tickets are $25 (+booking fee), or free for League members. Now, it goes without saying that the free tickets are for League Members only, so please only select that ticket type if you are a paying League Member – League membership is $15 per month, and gives you access to free Meet Ups in addition to loads of members only content on the members portal. If you’re not a member yet then you can join via the link below, or just purchase a ticket.

2) Please only register for this event if you plan on going. I know some people will grab a free ticket and then decide last minute that they’re too lazy to go – don’t be one of these people. If you commit to something, commit to it - we want to meet you!

3) If you’ve never been to a League event, there’s a reason why we don’t use the “N” word and use the word “connecting” instead. It's because of the negative connotation of soliciting, selling and business card swapping. Bleh, no one wants to go to an event to talk to someone for 20 minutes only to realise you’re being sucked into buying some powdered thick shakes. We are here to connect authentically and honestly – share stories and experiences, learn from each other and respect each other. Magical things WILL happen and people will seek you out to buy from you when you work from an honest heart space.
