How did the idea for your business first come about?
I launched my label shortly after graduating from studying Fine Art majoring in Jewellery & Small Objects at University. I had a positive reaction to my graduate collection which set me on a part of forward motion. I always had a fascination with jewellery from a young age so I think being a jewellery designer was what I was meant to do!
When did you have the “f*ck-it moment” and decide you were going to go all-in and start your business?
I continued to work on my label on the side letting it grow and evolve naturally until I received a jewellery commission from the National Gallery of Victoria for their gallery stores and shortly after two large scale wholesale orders from two US retailers that kicked everything into gear!
What were some major challenges you had when starting your business? And how did you overcome them?
Learning to scale the business while still keeping production in-house, wearing many hats across design, production and marketing have all been challenges for my business and the whole thing is a continual learning process as the label continues to evolve and expand in every aspect.
What has been your biggest “pinch me” moment?
Definitely seeing my jewellery go into all doors in of luxury department store Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and China, walking into Anthropologie stores in NYC and London and seeing jewellery. Also every time I see the jewellery in print in a magazine!
Starting a business can be gruelling - what keeps you motivated, and keeps you going?
Knowing that I have to show up for myself everyday because there is literally nobody else! I have so much love for what I do and a clear vision for the growth of the brand so this keeps me motivated to continue working to further this expansion. And being so grateful that through the business I can support myself and continue to bring my designs into production / into the world!
How do you create a work-life balance?
I’m really flexible with my work hours. If I am going through a patch where I have to work late nights and 7 days I do without any worries. I know it will balance back out eventually and I can go to early morning pilates and working more 9-5 hours once things calm back down. It ebbs and flows. Also resisting checking my emails that come through during the night at 3AM in bed helps!
