We create brands for the digital age. Brands include Flat Tummy Tea, Sneaky Vaunt, The Queen Pegasus + new brand dropping soon.
How did the idea for your business first come about?
After our first business, Flat Tummy Tea, was acquired in late 2015, my husband Tim and I intended on taking a break, starting a family and re-assessing what was next. After exiting the business in mid 2016, we soon got the itch to start something new. We saw an opportunity with the company who acquired Flat Tummy Tea and formed a partnership to build new brands for their portfolio, to be acquired pre-launch.
When did you have a ‘f*ck-it moment’ and decide you were going to go all-in and start your business?
With Flat Tummy Tea, after a lot of late nights and weekends (after full time work) researching, testing and developing ideas, there was a "Not sure if I can do this anymore. I'm too tired..” moment. Tim gave me the gentle shove I needed and we realised we had to go all-in.
With Founded Ventures, there seemed to be no other way. We were all-in from the start.
What were some major challenges you had when starting your business? And how did you overcome them?
Starting Founded Ventures was challenging because the whole concept of building a turn-key brand to be acquired pre-launch and then run by a team on the other side of the world was completely new. Our team have had to be very flexible, as with any new business, as we developed and adapted different roles to suit this new model.
What has been your biggest “pinch me” moment?
One of our biggest ‘pinch me’ moments was when our latest brand, The Queen Pegasus, was promoted by Kim Kardashian on the day we launched! We’d collaborated with her in the past but this was before many others had even seen the product.
Starting a business can be gruelling - what keeps you motivated, and keeps you going?
Tim and I tend to motivate each other. I’m extremely fortunate to have a business partner and husband who drives the business and invests so much into it (especially when I’m at home with our son) that we can’t help but talk about it and want to take it next level.
How do you create a work-life balance?
As I work with my husband, we have to be very conscious of keeping a good work-life balance. We have a holiday home that we go to every few weekends and once we’re there, there's a no work policy. We both make sure we take time away from the office to be with our son and have a great team behind us who take care of things while we’re doing so.
