Time to get personal: Why I made this life changing decision
About 2 months ago I made a life-changing decision to step away from my first business. It was honestly the hardest decision I’ve ever made. My dream since I was 21 was to own my own cupcake bakery and hatch that dream. When I left my corporate IT career to start a ‘home baking business', I never thought in a gazillion years it would it grow to 5 stores, 80+ staff and baking over 2 million cupcakes.
I knew deep down though that cupcakes was not the be all and end all for me. I knew that it was my stepping stone to something greater.
As much as I loved baking cupcakes at the time, I never found the urge to become a pastry chef or continue to bake forever. What I really loved were the challenges that came from being an entrepreneur. It was intuition and fate that guided me onto the path of business, entrepreneurship and supporting women.
Had I not started my first business, I would not understand the real struggles of what it means to build a business. To be a leader. To have the resilience and courage to do things that others wouldn’t.
And so, this led me to The League. For the last 3 years I’ve been trying my best to juggle the two companies but it only led to lack of focus, scatter-brain and I’ve felt like I had this inability to really nail what I've wanted to achieve.
Not going to lie but 2018 was one of the hardest years of my life. There was so much uncertainty and there were days I couldn’t physically get myself out of bed to face the world. I felt like a complete and utter failure, wishing that I never started a business in the first place. I was even toying with the idea of retreating back to the corporate world, so that I wouldn’t need to deal with such hard challenges anymore.
Things got better though. I held onto hope. I surrounded myself with people that reminded me of what I was capable of.
So a couple of months ago, out of the blue, I was given the opportunity to fully immerse myself into what I know to be my life’s mission, purpose, dharma.
I left my first business in capable hands so that I could give my everything to League of Extraordinary Women.
This is the most at peace and purposeful I’ve ever felt. I also started getting real crazy epiphanies that has solidified that I’m on the right path.
One of the EUREKA moments is how we’re changing the world wit this statement:
Our vision is to connect and inspire women to bring out their extraordinary.
