What to do when you feel disappointed...

Ugh. You’ve done it. You’ve really f**ked it up.

You can feel that ugly feeling
at the pit of your stomach. 

It’s not going away. 

Disappointment is relentless. It’ll keep you awake at night. It’ll make you think about the 14 billion ways you could have done it differently.

You can either let it eat you up and keep you down or… you can work through that emotion and get up out of that valley.

Here are 3 ways to process this emotion to make you stronger and wiser:

  1. Get to the bottom of that emotion. What and why are you really disappointed most about? Is it because you broke a promise? Is it because you put yourself in a situation that made you bend your own values? Really step into disappointment and let the truth come out and sink in.
  2. Realise it means you care about it enough. Disappointment sets in because you are truly passionate and care. You actually give a sh*t. Recognise that being disappointed is a far better emotion than being apathetic and just "watching the world go by". Flip your perspective.
  3. Focus on growth. Once you’ve uncovered the cause behind your disappointment, it’s time to turn this nasty emotion into a powerful one to help you change and grow. Perhaps consider that this disappointment is nothing more than a problem that needs to be solved. Perhaps you need to recalibrate your expectations. Perhaps some actions need to take place to avoid the situation repeating itself. Write some actions down. Make new commitments. Focus on moving forward.

When you walk into Disappointment Valley just be sure that it’s just a short brisk walk and get up out of there with your head held up high.
